Key Business Events figures 2024 in Luxembourg
LFT has completed the evaluation of its annual survey on Business Events attendance in Luxembourg. Here is a summary of the most important results from the LFT/LCB survey taken at various MICE venues in Luxembourg:
2024: an excellent year in numbers
2024 was an excellent year for Business Events (MICE) in Luxembourg, with a 10% increase in the number of events and a 12% increase in the number of attendees compared to the previous year. In absolute terms, the volume of events is estimated at 9,150, counting 935,000 attendees, 72% of whom were residents.
Increased demand from abroad
These trends are confirmed on the demand side, i.e., the volume of visitors from abroad who travelled to Luxembourg to participate in business events increased by 16% compared to 2023, reaching 241,000 stays, according to figures from the "World Travel Monitor" (source: IPK Intrnational). Revenue increased by 14%, indicating that the average spending per stay decreased slightly by 2% between 2023 and 2024 (€780 per person per stay).
More international, larger events
The sector has definitively left the pandemic years behind: +27% compared to 2019 for MICE trips from abroad, +17% for the total number of participants, and +5% for the number of events. Compared to 2019, events have therefore become larger, generating more international trips with overnight stays. Contributing to this phenomenon, the average duration of events also increased from 1.5 to 1.8 days between 2023 and 2024.
Higher demand for congresses and incentives
Demand for congresses and incentives (and also particularly for trade shows and exhibitions, in the case of inbound trips) increased in 2024, to the detriment of corporate meetings. Event organizers were less often Luxembourgish in 2024, and more often German and French, in particular. In terms of visitor origin, however, Belgium, the Netherlands, but also France and Switzerland gained market share compared to the average of recent years.
“Bleisure” still not growing
Luxembourg's market share among European destinations continued to increase in terms of MICE stays from abroad, from 0.53% in 2023 to 0.56% in 2024. However, business event stays with a leisure component ("Bleisure") continue to underperform in Luxembourg, with 37% of all MICE stays in 2024 (vs. 51% at the European level), percentages that are virtually unchanged compared to the previous year.
2025 forecasts
For 2025, current forecasts point to a mixed start to the year, and rising demand from May, with net growth of around 8 to 9 points (i.e., % of providers expecting an increase - % of providers expecting a decrease). Elsewhere, 42% of venues already regularly use artificial intelligence, particularly for analytics, marketing, and chatbots.
