28.11.2025Digital

Tourism Academy is a new centralised digital training platform that has been launched to offer training courses for those interested in becoming tour guides Luxembourg.

The first fundamental training course is in part digital and offers all the foundations to put people well on their way to becoming a seasoned tour guide in Luxembourg. This training program is part of the Ministry of the Economy’s commitment to strengthening the quality and visibility of Luxembourg's tourism sector, professionalising it, and highlighting the essential role of tour guides in promoting the country and its cultural, natural, and heritage assets.

The new training program, lasting approximately 25 hours, combines online learning (e-learning) with in-person sessions, following a blended learning approach. Participants will acquire knowledge of Luxembourg's geography, geology, history, culture, and economy, explore broader topics such as accessibility and group management, and meet key players in the tourism sector. The training is offered in four languages (Luxembourgish/German, French, and English) and is open to anyone interested, with no prerequisites. The first round of registrations is complete. Future rounds will be available via The House of Training website.

Are tour guides still valuable?

According to Luxembourg for Tourism’s (LFT) figures, approximately 19% of visitors participate in a guided tour during their stay, representing more than one million people per year (including both overnight visitors and day-trippers). The data also shows that these visitors are more satisfied with their stay (94% compared to 87%), recommend the destination more often (77% compared to 67%), and express a greater desire to return for a longer stay (48% compared to 39%).

Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy and Tourism of Luxembourg concluded: “These figures clearly demonstrate that guided tours enrich the experience of our visitors and contribute significantly to the positive image of Luxembourg as a tourist destination. Supporting this activity is therefore a direct investment in the quality of our welcome and in the satisfaction of our guests.”

Tourism Academy will gradually incorporate other training modules for all tourism stakeholders, covering topics such as sustainability, communication, and digital tools in active tourism. In the coming years, Luxembourg for Tourism will integrate its own training into the digital environment, such as database training.
