Tourism in Luxembourg in 2025 More visitors, but shorter stays

22.09.2026Market research

Luxembourg welcomed more visitors in 2025 than in 2024.

Arrivals at paid accommodation increased by 2% to 1,597,720, whereas the total number of overnight stays fell by 3% to 3,586,219. In other words, the destination continues to attract visitors, but stays are a little shorter than before.

This is, in fact, one of the key takeaways from the year. The average stay duration was 2.24 nights, 0.11 nights fewer than in 2024. This trend isn’t new, but it’s becoming increasingly pronounced. This doesn’t detract from the fact that Luxembourg did better than before the pandemic, with 21% more arrivals and 13% more overnight stays than in 2019.

Neighbouring markets continue to drive tourism activity. The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France remain the leading source markets, but certain long-haul markets, such as the US and India, are also increasing significantly.  This shows that Luxembourg draws primarily on visitors from neighbouring countries, while also expanding its visitor base.

Tourism in Luxembourg is still primarily driven by leisure travel. In 2025, 60% of trips to Luxembourg with overnight stays were for holidays, 12% were for visits to friends or relatives and 27% were for business purposes. At regional level, the capital (+3%) and the Moselle Region (+6%) recorded the biggest increase in overnight stays compared to 2024.

In 2025, 60% of leisure visitors were first-time visitors, confirming the Grand Duchy’s appeal as a tourist destination. The desire to discover a new and unfamiliar destination was the second most commonly cited reason for choosing Luxembourg, after its nature and landscape.

Satisfaction levels remain high. Online reviews give Luxembourg an average rating of 8.5 out of 10, with 9.1 for its attractions. Visitor numbers are still perceived as moderate: only 3% of leisure visitors staying overnight said that they felt their experience was negatively affected by a perception of overcrowding.

Last but not least, 2025 confirmed a fairly clear trend. Luxembourg is attracting more visitors than before, from a wide range of markets, and boasts a positive image. The main aim now isn’t just to encourage more people to come, but to make them want to stay a little longer. Luxembourg for Tourism is building on these efforts by promoting the destination and making it easier for visitors to plan their trips. The VisitLuxembourg app and the LuxembourgPass allow visitors to explore the tourism offering and access a wide range of sites and experiences across the country.
