Autumn in Luxembourg Demand Remains High

09.10.2026Market research

The outlook for autumn 2026 points to solid demand in the coming months. Hotels expect occupancy of 77% in September (+6%), 73% in October (-2%) and 70% in November (-4%). Leisure bookings are likely to lag slightly behind business demand in the coming months.

Camping and Outlook

Campsites are also seeing higher demand. They expect occupancy of 46% in September (+9%) and 37% in October (+10%). Demand for permanent rental accommodation such as mobile homes or cabins, as well as for motorhome pitches, is above last year's level in both cases. 63% of hotels and all surveyed campsites are optimistic about the rest of the season.

Flight Bookings and Source Markets

Flight bookings for future travel to Luxembourg are 9% above the 2025 level. For hotels, demand for future travel is growing strongly year on year from Germany, Belgium, Italy and Spain. For flights, growth comes from Germany, Turkey, Austria and Denmark.

Autumn and Early Winter in Review

Visitor numbers in Luxembourg were 20% higher in 2025 than in 2019. From September to December, however, the increase was 33%: +31% in September and October, +37% in November and December (source: Statec). Demand in autumn and early winter has therefore risen above average in recent years. This increase was largely driven by hotels.

Who Visits in Autumn and Winter

The LFT visitor survey shows how leisure visitors staying overnight between October and December differ from those in the other seasons. They are younger than average and more often travel for sightseeing and city breaks or to visit friends and family. They more often cite the fact that Luxembourg is a lesser-known destination that is not overcrowded as a decisive factor. On their trip, they more often visit architectural and historical sites as well as traditional events such as Christmas markets. Trying local cuisine, buying directly at markets and shopping in general are also more popular.

Compared with visitors overall, these guests more often see Luxembourg as modern, dynamic, luxurious, international, stylish and full of contrasts. Among the traveller types, "Explorers" dominate even more than in other seasons, and "Perfection Seekers" are slightly overrepresented. They are far more likely to book their stay through an online travel agency (OTA) than directly with the accommodation. They spend more on accommodation, restaurants and shopping than visitors overall.

Origin and Destination Regions

France, Belgium and Germany are the three most important source markets for trips to Luxembourg in autumn and early winter. Since 2019, however, the number of trips between October and December has also grown particularly strongly from Spain, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands and the USA. 54% of arrivals in this period go to Luxembourg City (compared with 43% across the whole year).
